Professor Matthew Harries

Professor Matthew Harries is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester, and Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at Salford Royal Hospital. He has a specialist interest in hair and scalp disorders, particularly inflammatory hair loss. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Manchester for his research into the hair's immune system in scarring alopecias. He is highly research active. He is the Lead of the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) inflammatory hair diseases programme, a member of the British Skin Foundation charity large grant awards committee and sits on the Alopecia UK charity research committee. He is currently leading the British Association of Dermatologists alopecia areata clinical guidelines update and was lead author for the "Acquired hair disorders" chapter in the latest Rook's Textbook of Dermatology.
